Mandy joined the group in August 2019 as part of her efforts to learn how to write fiction. After years of campaigning on sustainable energy issues, she realises the world doesn't need any more facts, figures and data but rather a whole new story. She has an academic background in microbiology and edits the Reforesting Scotland Journal (https://www.reforestingscotland.org/publications/journal/). She blogs occasionally at https://mandymeikle.wordpress.com/."

William J. Granby
William J. Granby joined Biggar Writers to give his writing some focus, after a lifetime of sporadically scribbling. A hoarder of perennially unfinished and hopelessly ambitious works, Bill likes his short stories quirky, his poems structured and his fried eggs done both sides with the yolks burst.
Stephen Calverley
Born at an early age within spitting distance of the twin towers…of the Liver Buildings, Stephen showed considerable early promise and had mastered the English language by the time he was 6¾. School was a breeze, mainly because he always left doors open, but it did not prevent him securing a very important position with the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board…as a dockers scally? Each day he would put on the biggest overcoat he could find and his workmates would fill the pockets with newspapers, toilet rolls and woolly jumpers. Then, being a fit young man, he would run past the gate security in the direction of Scotty Road, leading security guards on a merry chase, whilst his docker pals acquired generous samples of the cargo of the day! It was whilst working on the docks he developed an interest in writing short stories and poetry…usually on the back of toilet doors!
Keen for a more responsible role he moved into fashion, becoming a diesel fitter! This involved working the floor at Madam Millicent’s Modes of the Mersey and encouraging business by selecting dresses for customers and exclaiming ‘diesel fitter’ in his very poshest scouse accent.
This budding career was cut short, however, when he met the love of his life and she told him to buck up or clear off! A far more sedate career saw him move into civil engineering and construction doing honours and masters degrees and travelling all over the world in a valiant attempt to buck up and spread the gospel according to Bill Shankly.
Excommunication to the sunny regions of Scotland led to ownership of a number of businesses before retirement and the opportunity to return to his true passion of whisky writing for pleasure.
